PIRC Investigation: Investigation launched into circumstances leading to detention of five people

The Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (PIRC) has launched an investigation into the circumstances of a series of incidents in Edinburgh in the early hours of 22 July 2017, during which officers undertook an armed search of a house in Edinburgh and the later detention of five people at a different location.

Police Scotland referred the matter to the PIRC as armed officers presented firearms during the course of the incidents.

A report on the PIRC's findings will be submitted to the Chief Constable in due course.
