PIRC investigation: Commissioner investigating discharge of firearms during police operation

Following assessment, the Police Investigation & Review Commissioner (PIRC) is investigating the discharge of conventional firearms, using vehicle tyre deflation rounds, in Robroyston, Glasgow, on 30 September 2016.

It is reported that the tyres of one vehicle was damaged during the incident, but no members of the public were injured.

The firearms discharge occurred following a police operation.

In terms of the Police and Fire Reform (Scotland) Act 2012 and the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (Investigations Procedure, Serious Incidents and Specified Weapons) Regulations 2013, the Chief Constable must refer certain incidents involving the police to the PIRC to allow for an independent investigation.

A report on the findings has been submitted to the Chief Constable for his consideration.
