Commissioner launches investigation into death of 39-year-old Brian Wingate


The PIRC is investigating the circumstances leading up to the death of 39-year-old Brian Wingate in Paisley. 

A spokeswoman for the PIRC said:

"The Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (PIRC) has been instructed by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) to conduct an investigation into the circumstances leading up to the death in custody of 39-year-old Brian Wingate.

"The man became ill after being detained by Police Scotland on Friday 25 November 2016.

"He was then transferred to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, where he later died that day.

"A report into the findings will be submitted to the COPFS in due course."
