Commissioner investigates police response following discovery of body of 46-year-old man

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) has instructed the Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (PIRC) to undertake an independent investigation following the death of David Penman, 46, whose body was discovered in Dunipace, near Denny, on Thursday 15 December 2016.

A spokeswoman for the PIRC said:

"The investigation will focus on the response from Police Scotland to telephone calls made by members of the public between Tuesday 13 December and Thursday 15 December 2016 in relation to a parked vehicle.

"A report on the Commissioners findings will be submitted to the COPFS in due course."

The family of Mr Penman issued the a statement on Tuesday 20 December 2016 through the PIRC requesting privacy: 

It said:

"David was a much loved father, son and brother and as a family, we are devastated by his loss.

"We are now trying to come to terms with this loss and would ask for our privacy to be respected to allow us to grieve in peace."
