Investigation into police response following death of 44-year-old man

The Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (PIRC) is investigating how police responded to a report of concern in Glasgow about a 44-year-old man.

George McLean was taken to hospital for treatment but later died.

A spokesman for the PIRC said:

"The Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (PIRC) is investigating the circumstances leading up to the death of 44-year-old George McLean.

"The investigation will focus on the response from police to a report of concern for Mr McLean in Glasgow on 26 April 2017.

"He was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment later that day, but died on 27 April 2017.

"The incident has been referred to the PIRC for investigation by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) and a report on the Commissioner's findings will be submitted to the COPFS in due course."
